Body Wisdom

Both grief and death happen in the body. The body is the brilliant vessel that instinctively knows how to grieve and how to die. We have been conditioned away from our own embodiment. In order to meet those natural processes of life, we have to learn and remember how to meet and follow the body’s wisdom.

Grief

We can learn to align with nature’s wisdom about how to move through grief and death as a natural process. When we work with the body, we can fully move through the grief and/or allow it to fully move through us rather than becoming stuck (prolonged grief or long-term grief disorders). Instead of identifying with the pain and layering on more suffering, we can move through grief in a direct, simple, and easeful manner.

Working with grief brings us back to our body as a place of peace and stillness. We can get a deeper sense of who we are in the body. A sense of coming home to ourselves.

Grief & Trauma

Experiences of trauma can often get trapped in the body. Trauma can be defined as an incomplete experience that didn’t have the presence required to fully move through the body. In the space of deep presence the body will heal itself, and moving through grief can a part of that healing process. Through bodywork, we can bring the potency of presence to the body so the nervous system can ease-fully release. Through this process, we can help the body come back into resourcefulness and aliveness.

Death and the Body

Bodywork can help ease the dying process to aid us in coming into harmony with the body’s natural process. We are taught to be scared of death; fear lives in our minds and affects our body. Bringing presence to the body through gentle touch can bring ease and help one let go, making peace with one’s life and death.

Intuitive Craniosacral Style Bodywork

Craniosacral therapy is a modality that works with the rhythms of the cerebral spinal fluid in the brain and throughout the spine and nervous system to open the body’s natural resources to restore health and well being. Through gentle holds with cultivated presence along the spine, neck, head, and joints the nervous system returns to parasympathetic activation, otherwise known as rest and digest. In this place the body’s own healing mechanisms are engaged.

Mikyö utilizes this style of work intuitively to help the body to release grief and trauma with grace and ease. It is also a powerful offering for those who are dying or those caring for the dying. Through presence and nurturing touch, what’s been stuck, overwhelming, or incomplete can find resolve through the deep relaxation of the body and psyche.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is an ancient japanese style of massage that uses acupressure and gentle, deep stretching to open the flows of energy in the meridians and body to restore balance and health. It is done clothed, typically on a mat on the floor. It is deeply relaxing, grounding, and brings harmony and balance to the body, heart, and mind.

Daoist Energy Healing

Daoist Energy Healing is a potent form of energy work that focuses on cultivating and toning the qi (energy) in the body to address the root causes of imbalance and dis-ease. By removing energetic blockages the body is freed up to heal itself with ease and grace. This practice is similar to Reiki, yet different in that it works with the major organ systems of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
